I regularly ski both Alta and Snowbird and am keenly aware of the differences between them. They are akin to parallel universes. Skiing across the boundary line from one to the other can lead to a feeling of disorientation (and it’s not only due to the presence or absence of snowboarders). The infrastructure, the people each attracts, the mountains themselves are unique. But how does one verbally capture the essence of this difference? Obviously I don’t have enough to do in my life, because I’ve been trying to come up with a pithy synopsis of the Alta versus Snowbird experience.
Here is my first attempt. Yeah, it’s weak. If you are familiar with both resorts, please chime in with your ideas.
If you are looking for a belly-full of the steepest, gnarliest vertical you can find: Snowbird. If your goal is not a goal, but the Big Picture: Alta.
