Funny to see everyone worked up in a tizzy over ski reviews.
The truth is - or at least in my opinion - that preferences are so specific to the individual that ski reviews are nearly meaningless. The only thing that is worthwhile to me is if someone says I really like X ski and I also like Y and Z. If I happen to like X, then I'll be more likely to give Y and Z a look.
Well "everyone worked up" is mainly one.
Yeah I think the Motive 95 is a good example of word of mouth advertising. Certainly not shop advertising. That was the Nrgy. The "internet" barely paid attention last year either. (shameless unresearched comment from cyclopian zombie lording over the blind zombie @Finndog )
A "large", 5?, (edit: possibly only 3 plus twp were at Jackson), group of people from epic at Jackson were on them. Well they had them. They weren't always on them. Conditions were rather firm at times. (I'm not sure Finn had become a zombie at that point. I believe that happened later. But he's essentially a day trader in skis with two screens monitoring the market buying and selling.) Then @tetonpwdrjunkie picked a pair up.
Great ski, cheap price. I'd never heard of it. But when you have several people who are good skiers, are gear savvy and like them, you're probably going to at least try them. Maybe even purchase if you're in the market. Why struggle with 16 demos? They're relatively cheap so you can always sell. Is this really so complicated? See people you know who like them, have opportunity to purchase at a good price, say wtf, then purchase. (Note that's bad for your eyesight. That's the wtf part.)
Some apparently want full disclosure agreements on reviews yet are bothered when it's "so and so really liked them so I gave it a shot".
So let's see. Mags and industry say Nrgy is the bomb. Testers here mostly said "meh" or worse. Some discover Motive 95 that nobody talks about, purchase them, tell the people they ski with to try, they purchase, and now it's a conspiracy.
