We've done a number of stories on the community ski hills in WA and ID. Here are a couple of past threads, with video, that show a bunch of them.
49* North, Lookout Pass, Silver Mountain, Mt. Spokane: http://www.epicski.com/t/124436/inland-nw-recent-video-releases
Schweitzer, Bald Mountain, Lost Trails (a personal favorite), Soldier Mountain, Pomerelle, Magic Mountain, ID, Brundage: http://www.epicski.com/t/118407/idaho-road-trip-2013
This is a good thread all about community resorts in S. Idaho. Areas included here are, Silver, Lookout Pass, Cottonwood Butte, Snowhaven, Tamarack, Bogus Basin, Pebble Creek, Kelly Canyon, and Grand Targhee: http://www.epicski.com/t/110158/southern-idaho-road-trip-on-the-road-video-trip-report
I love these small areas or, community ski hills. They're a blast; not difficult skiing but the people make it really fun. Some have really great snow that really never gets tracked out in the trees. Most are areas where the kids can learn to ski then move on or, just stick around and ski in the winter. Many were built by local farmers (a lot of farm communities that support these) for something to do in the winter for themselves and their families. It's really a down-home experience. Really a great way to see some countryside and meet some awesome folks.
