Drove upto Reno Saturday. Left Reno at 745am Sunday morning. Reached 89 turnoff at 845. Reached squaw at 1030!!!!
Spent most of my time at Granite Chief. Snow was good. Some scrapy parts. But overall fun.
I left at 230 wanting to beat the traffic. Reached the agricultural station by 415 only to find that the traffic has stopped completely. 20 car pile up. 80 east closed. Waited for an hour. Then got turned around. Went to truckee. A drink, a burger and cell phone charger later. Hit 80 again. Reached Reno at 830pm. 6 hours after I left Squaw.
Monday. Only 3 in overnight. Weekday. So I thought it was going to be empty. At 915, parking lot was full!!
To make matters worse only Silvy was turning. Everything else was on maintenance hold. It really wasn't that windy.
Others have described Silvy conditions. For the last run before I quit at 1230 - I hiked up
Broken arrow. That was really nice. Hit several untracked lines even at 1230. Back in the Bay Area by 430.
I don't know if this is true but I suspect that they put extra effort into opening silvy since it wasn't open on the weekend and they anticipated demand. It was also very windy at 9 although the wind died and more lifts opened. I'm sure the big problem was deicing the lifts.
