Now, is everybody going to tell me that Killington is too big to fail. What about Saddleback? Ascutney is surely too big to fail.....riiight. How about Brodie?
Saddleback is failing because they can't attract enough people to make it worth running the business - because their main lift is out of date and they waited until it was too late to replace it.
Brodie failed partly because all their lifts are were completely ancient, and could not compete with their neighbor who had been constantly upgrading.
Killington has always had a major critical mass problem over the last 10 year. It costs LOTS of money to run the resort. If people don't show up, because the competition is spanking them, they will lose enough visits to a point where they lose money. If you're losing money, you can't afford new lifts or stuff.
The way things are going, it's going to be a long, slow decline.
