I'm interested in buying my first pair of skis/boots.
I'm 26, female, 5'6", weigh 135 and I suppose I would consider myself an 'upper intermediate' since I just started last season but have picked up the sport quickly- can ski black diamonds comfortably, some double blacks. I am hoping to take more lessons and ski a lot this coming season, and hopefully progress a lot! I would love to do more moguls and start doing glades and jumps this season.
What would be a good ski to select for someone like me? Since I'm in the Northeast and have mostly icy or hard pack conditions, from what I've read online so far I'm thinking a 150-152 cm long ski with a narrower waist, something between 74-80mm, sort of an all-mountain ski with rocker to make turning easier. Does that sound about right, or am I way off?
I'm wary of picking a ski that's too advanced (too stiff?) for my current level, but at the same time am really hoping to ski much more aggressively this season, and want a ski I can 'grow in to.'
I definitely plan to get my boots fitted in a highly-recommended shop near me in September once they re-stock, but was hoping to buy skis online while they are on sale. Is that a really bad idea? Should I demo first? The cost of renting each time I go skiing is killing me. I would love to be able to buy skis for a bargain during the summer and use them throughout the coming season.
After browsing some 'best of' lists and EVO/REI, several caught my attention and seemed to fit the specs recommended by my friend:
Dynastar Neva 78
Dyanstar Active Pro
Blizzard Viva 810
Head MYA 8 or Head MYA 5
Elan Amphibio Insomnia
Nordica Belle to Belle
Please let me know if you have experience with any of these skis, or could recommend others that might fit my profile!
Thank you so much!
