Thinking of adding 2014/15 Volkl Mantra! Good addition to my quiver?

I probably don't need a new ski but what the heck good deals right now, my current quiver is:

2013 Kastle LX82 in 172
2015 Kastle FX84 in 176
2014 Kastle FX94 in 176
2014 Blizzard Bonafide in 173
2013 Blizzard Cochise in 177
2013 Atomic Automatic in 179

I am currently very happy with my quiver but thinking of adding last years Mantras to use as a 2 ski quiver when going out west. My usual 2 ski quiver out west is the FX94 and Automatic. Really like my Bonafide but can be a little short, however originally owned one at 180 and felt it was too long. Anyone out there that skied or owned last years Mantras let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Chuck

You own a FX94 and a Bonafide, what exactly do you want a Mantra for? So no, it's not a 'good additional to my quiver' when you already own one 98mm ski AND a 94mm ski.

That being said, if you want them and can justify it, then get them. It's great to have a quiver, I just think obvious overlap like that is completely pointless.

Well I like the Bones but kind of in between sizes. And the FX94 is a completely different ski than the Mantra. FX94 is fully cambered and the Mantra has full rocker.

The new Mantra will full rocker will be similar to the Bones. Volkls sizing is also different, the 170 will be basically the same as your 173, and the 177's similar to an 180 Bone (which you found to big).

What exactly do you expect from these that you don't already get from the Kastles or Blizzards?

That is good info.  I would have thought that the Mantra would have been more like the Cochise in 177 because of the full rocker.  The Cochise at 177 skis perfectly for me, however the Bones in 180 seems sluggish for my size 5'6" 165 lbs.  I really like the Kastle's in crud, chopped snow and anything except fresh new snow.  The FX94's I own are the fully cambered skis with no tip rocker and don't float or glide well through new snow. And I am not talking heavy accumulation, I have the Automatics for anyting over 6" of new snow.  I love the Auto's for that kind of skiing probably my favorite ski.

I know the new Kastle's have tip rocker but the cost keeps me from ever buying new Kastle's.  I always wait until the season is over and buy the previous year model at a 40% discount.  I guess I was just looking to mix it up a bit.  I did own a pair of mantra's in 170 a few years back.  The silver with ninja graphics and thought the 170's were to short.  Just thought I'd give the new version in 177 a try.  Not really looking for anything specific just a change.

The Mantras in a 177 will ski short when flat based due to the full rocker, on edge, since the rocker is so low, most of the ski will engage. When I mentioned the 177 Mantra will be very similar to a 180 Bonafide, I simply meant in terms of phyiscal ski length. I haven't skied the new full rocker Mantra so I can't comment about on snow feel, but I'm thinking it will seem quite similar to the 180 Bonafide.
