Snowbird wouldn't be the resort it is today without the vision of Dick Bass, he will be missed.

I didn't realize he was also the pioneer of the "Seven Summits" (climbing the highest peak on all 7 continents).

Founding father of one of the greatest ski areas in America.  Thanks for the heads-up.

There a book about it? I'll soon be finished with my current history book (The Great Bridge; David McCullough--great read) and always looking for some new interesting bit of history.

He was one of the early wealthy investors in the ski industry, doing it out of love for the sport and the mountains. He recently sold part of his Snowbird stake to the Cumming family, not because of John Cumming losing PCMR to Vail Resorts, but to see that Snowbird would have another steward that would protect what he built and is too rich (Ian is worth at least $3 billion more than Bass) to ever have to sell. He planned Snowbird for his eventual death while his health was failing, and did so properly. I doubt many skiers will appreciate that. The Cumming family will be good stewards of the mountain, continuing the legacy of Dick Bass.
