170 was  too short for that ski!  (unless you are tiny)

And when I hear stuff like this I am skeptical of the tune!

Well of course it sucked in the bumps it is a freaking GS ski! It was not made for bumps. It was a slightly smaller radius Gs ski with an expanded tip! Simpy amazing sk for the time!

(But I could rip bumps on them, but I have been skiing bumps for over 50 years!)

.....My SX 11's are a highly competent ski. They are fast with an aggressive capability. ....Thats what turned me on to revisiting a ski that may be several years older -but not really "out of date"

Maybe this should be the Old Race Ski thread instead....

I had a pair of 2004 SX11 in 170 that I sold to a friend who still has them and doesn't want them if you're interested.  In fantastic shape.  Green.  These skis. http://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/atomic-sx11-r412-bindings-2004.aspx

Narrower waist and narrower tip. on the GS 12 111-66 vs 115 or 116- 68 on the SX's

Did a bit of quick research and A-man is right-same PB construction, but different dimensions (and faulty memory on my part!) I remember not seeing nearly as many of the SX Pb skis as the GS Pb skis.

Funny how we can all view a ski differently.  My 170 sx11 were one of my least favorite skis and sold them long before their life was done with me.  For me they had a real speed limit and were terrible in the bumps and so had no use.  They also had a very limited turn shape.  I did think they made good tigger skis for bouncing around off features.

You must have had a defective ski, or maybe an SX-10 with an SX-11 topsheet (which is a defect too!).

I demoed the SX11 a couple of times (it was shorter than 170) and I don't know what their speed limit was, but it was higher than the hill could provide; it only provided enough slope and vertical for about 60 mph.

Thumbs Up:D

Yeah the 170 was too short, but it was a smoking deal and mis-priced by a big box ski store.  At the time I was still going down in ski length (that was the ski I bottomed out on and then moved up again to find my happy medium) as I adjusted to shaped skis.  Fun ski to lay over on an edge for sure, but it definitely had a speed limit in terms of where the ski was effective for me.    Tune was good-did them myself.  Pretty confident in my skills on the groomers and the bumps, but this is the internet so anyone can say anything.

Again different strokes for different folks, but if the ski could not rip groomers or bumps I did not have much use for it in those dimensions.

Replaced it with a pair of 188 Volkl GS race skis that I still have today for ripping groomers.

John, and Atomicman, Would you have any idea what year was the begining of the Neox Binding Era?

The previous "aero" trpe is kind of questionable.

Neox was on GS12's of the same year... 2007 8 season or was it earlier?

2006?

If my increasingly failing memory serves me, I had a pair of the first year GS 12 PB with the NEOX bindings-I believe they were '06-'07. The first D2 race skis were '09-'10-the civilian skis used the NEOX and the FIS spec skis used the RACE 6/14-10/18 series for that season before switching to the X series for the '10-'11 model year.

My first pair of Neox was mounted to my first pair of M11 in Dec 2005. My two pair of Atomic skis before that had the older Race 614 on them.

Yeah the Race 614 is not the best - kind of unpredictable in that mine seem to hang up on heel release on occasion...

I have had better luck with the current stuff on my 2013 SL's

Therefore I'm looking for, I guess, 06 and up with Neox. Does anyone know if they sold these flat by the Neox era?

I think a great setup would be 2009's with the current X Race stuff for a binding
