That sounds like the center of gravity to the decision if you ask me!  Speaking for the DE and NJ contingent, anyway, lol.

Ya, the drive is about the same time, 6-7 hours from my door. But, the last 2 hours to TL is sketchy Rt 33 switchbacks that the kids hate and can be tricky when it's snowing.  Well worth it when we get there though.  But it's definitely a longer hike from east of here to TL.

I'm good with either place though and honestly lean TL simply because we did BK last time.

Hot tub would be a plus from my kids' point of view.

Just adding another vote for BK for Gathering, Tline for Snowy Luau. (Also, I couldn't make Snowy Luau last year, but I'm hopeful for this year! :beercheer: Variety is always nice...)

You might try posting in the PA/DE/SoNJ thread and see if you can stir up any interest in BK in late Feb.

I was planning to head up for part of snowy luau last year, and it wound up raining all weekend so I bailed... let's hope for better weather and a meetup there this year!

Looking to get in a weekend ski trip with my wife and daughter that fits around her gymnastics schedule ... this trip may be it!  Looks like T-Line is about 6 1/2 hours and BK about 7 1/2 hours from us in good weather (a little north of Charlotte, NC) ... does that sound right?

I know speed limits are taken into account for time estimates, but my guess is that it may be closer to 7 hours to Tline from Charlotte because of the roads involved in WV.  Even in good weather, can often end up going relatively slow on the 2-lane roads behind a truck or some slow car.  Assuming not leaving too early in the morning, the last part in the dark is definitely more work than finishing the drive to BK.

How old is your daughter?  Would your wife ski too?

I don't know where it is at BK, but several of the properties (actually just about all) are advertising access to some sort of facility that provides a hot tub.  I haven't dug into the Tline properties, yet, but with the growing consensus for Gathering at BK and Luau at Tline, might be time to call it.

Perhaps there is a shared hot tub where the BK resort condos are located.

Let's wait and see if anyone else who usually attends chimes in today.  Re-reading, it looks like there are a few people (Old Boot, ddanks) who would only attend Feb. 20-21 if it's at BK, while the people who mentioned Tline don't feel that strongly about it.  Some of the regulars who live relatively close don't decide until a week or two before based on snow and weather conditions.  So we are not that likely to hear from them for a while.

I'm happy to head to BK since someone else is organizing lodging.  ;)

BK's hot tubes are at their condo complex which one must drive to get there. I'm pretty sure your party drove right by it on the way up to the condo you rented last year. It's off Overland Pass Rd. just before you get to the turnoff to Little Valley Rd. From the Mountain Top property you must drive to the lodge and continue passed it, down by the tubing hill. On Google Maps/Earth the road is listed as Pavia Rd.but I think the locals refer to that as Overland Pass Rd.

Ha ha, I wrote tubes. Now that is very different, never mind.

Perfect!  The other kids are mostly tweens too, both boys and girls.

Yep, ddank's tween daughter will be there, as will WD65's.

Okay, here's a proposal together with the start of a 2016 list based on info in the Roll Call from last season.  Not expecting 100% commitment at this point, but gives @kitchener a good idea of who to include in a PM thread about sharing a house.  Did I miss anyone?  A few others have posted in this thread but didn't really say what level of interest they have.

If anyone is reading who has never attended a Mid-Atlantic Gathering and has questions they would like to ask privately, feel free to send a PM (Private Message) to kitchener or me.

PROPOSED DATES:  Feb. 19-21, weekend after Pres. Day

PROPOSED LOCATION:  Blue Knob, PA

FAMILIES

kitchener + 2 sons
WD65 + 1 son and 1 daughter
crgildart + 1 son and maybe a daughter
ddanks + daughter, daughter's best friend?; if BK

hobbes429 & DW + daughter

WITHOUT KIDS

NJskier164 - maybe with DW

Coach13 - with others?

MarzNC - most likely solo, willing to stay in a family house
LHC, friends and family - probably day trip
Old Boot - probably, if BK

JamesJ - maybe, if not out west

You can add me... solo, and willing to share housing or not. I'll probably try to attend for a couple of the days either way.

If there are no objections, I'm thinking that a decision can be declared tonight.

Assuming we're going to be agreed on Blue Knob, any lurkers out there who are thinking of coming and staying one or both nights, PM me or Marznc (or post here).  I've been reaching out to property owners and beginning to get a feel for the best options for us.  It's early and I'm sure second or third houses will be snapped up between now and February for all the "I don't know, yets", but right now, this early, we're dealing with "first choice" on the pick of the litter out there, so stand and be counted if you want best location/best house, lol.

Perhaps you can name drop @Jamesj to the Thompsons' if you go to Mountaintop. I'm sure he will drop in to okay that idea. I'm also pretty sure we are the DC ski club that they referred to. Remind them that we usually rent the weekend after Presidents. It won't get you better rates but will put them at ease.

Ha. Put them at ease! "Yo. Name's Blutarsky! That place you got? Good for togas and pig roasts? Neighbors okay with nudity, yo?"

Well a toga party might be fun I was really thinking about putting them at ease knowing that they will be renting to the same group and not possibly disappointing a good repeat customer. People 'round here are funny that way.

Hopefully this year's turn-out will see several rentals full of Epic Skiers -- didn't last year's Gathering conflict, schedule-wise, with the one out West?
