Boot Fitter recommendations and advice: Mammoth or Taos area

I'll be purchasing new boots for this upcoming season, but have not worked with a boot fitter before and would be grateful for your opinions on the best fitter in my neck of the woods. I ski at Mammoth and Taos. Boot Doctors is at Taos, I know they’re good, and I hear Footloose in Mammoth Lakes is good. I’ll be in Mammoth long before Taos though, and if Footloose is known to do a good job, then I could use the new boots for more of the coming season if I work with and purchase from them. Or is there another fitter in Mammoth I should check out?

And any additional advice you may have about working with a boot fitter would also be very welcome!

Nothing against Footloose, I've had work done there and they are great - but if you wanted to get your boot fitting done closer to home and spend your time at Mammoth there is Claude at Ski Net Sports in Studio City.

Thanks Mike78, cometjo -

I think I know what to do now. I'll head down to skinetsports.com in Studio City this summer. FYI They have a really informative website.

A good summer projects - new boots!

OK.  I do not like dissing anybody online...but I was not happy with Claude.  He put me in boots that were too big and despite repeated returns for fittings all he did was add padding.  I returned 3 times during my 12 month period, excluding the original fitting. At the last visit, he blamed my feet by saying they were "overly mobile" and that no boot fitter could help me.  He continued to insist that the boots were the right size.  I bought a new pair online, one size smaller, saw Cordy at Footloose for some need snugging at the heel and all was right again in the ski world.

Cordy is the best. The thing I like about having the fitting down at Mammoth during the ski season is that you can ski in the boots and if you need any adjustments you can get them done the same day. all season long.

Thanks everyone - very helpful. really looking forward to finally having some boots that fit right. Think I'll go with pud's suggestion. It'll be the first thing I do when Mammoth opens, fingers crossed late November!? 5 months to go.
