Ummmmm, I did not know this was this serious, but here it is.

Of course I knew that riders use urban features to play around but this is...wow!

Ouch!! That's gotta hurt.

The other thought is - I'll never complain about bringing the grocery up from the garage to the kitchen. :D

Looks like a great spectator sport.

Where I grew up there was a town home development built down a mile of rolling hills with a row of homes then a drop with stairs then a row of homes then a drop with stairs....... for about a mile or so top to bottom.  We used to totally rock that on our BMX bikes.  Sucked having to push them back up the hill on a hot summer day but totally worth it..

Here's what most of us were riding for those 5-15 stair sets....

They were pretty damned heavy LOL!

Growing up in the woods we were mt biking on 3 speed english racers. You make the best of where you are and what you have.

I had a friend whose dad was a pipe fitter and made a couple of kids stuff like this in his spare time after work..

This what happened to his (Kelly McGarry's) head tube in that crash:

Holy Sh!t!

Apparently he is rather strong and tough... and perhaps not very bright. This wasn't his first massive, bicycle destroying, stack.

Wow. Major scorpion. He could use a new wheel and/or tire sponsor. His tire/wheel was compromised before the fork had even reached half compression.

Pretty hard not to watch something like that and wonder "what if"? Now we know.

Like a lot of things, brilliant when it works out.

The problem was he landed way past the LZ/ramp on the flats.  Even if the wheel and frame/fork hadn't failed he wasn't going to ride out of that..  He still would have bounced pretty bad if the bike held together.

He said in an iterview that half way down he boiled his brakes. Pulled the levers to the bar.

I'm at work so youtube doesn't work great and the videos aren't loading but if they aren't included there are some great urban downhill videos of the course in Brazil. The course actually goes through people's houses it's pretty cool. Someone should pull the McGarry crash from rampage last year.

I wonder why they'd riot over this. The link doesn't explain the motive.

Wow, that is crazy.  They don't say if they'll try to make it up at another location.  I'm sure its a pain to get that kind of course set up tho so maybe its not possible, logistically.

Sounds like the riots were unrelated. The article says it was a demonstration  against illegal immigration. Appears that by happen chance that the riot began near the course and than the rioters used the course obstacles and barriers to try and evade the police.
