Replacing Strolz Custom Foam Boots with an Off The Shelf Shell

Hi There! :-)

I've been skiing since I was 6, and I raced in college. I've done 4 seasons as a ski instructor all 4 in custom foamed Strolz race flex boots. http://www.larryadler.com/strolz-racing-ski-boot-2012.html. I have wide feet and narrow ankles, and I've not found any "off the shelf boots" that have worked from a race perspective (Historically Lange have been close).

I'm not skiing anywhere close to as much as I used to (I'm currently running a software consultancy company in the city these days) so I've gone from skiing 100 days a season to skiing 15 days in a season.

I'm looking at replacing my Strolz customs with a softer more comfortable off the shelf boot, but getting a custom foamed liner to compliment these to deal with my narrow ankles. Not sure what shells to get to compliment a custom foam liner...

Would be great to get some suggestions for shells that would work for a setup like this! :-)

Cheers,

AM

Shells don't compliment liners, rather the liners compliment the shells.  You need to start with a shell that has the fit you would like or very close with the factory liner and then add the foam to finish it off.  No way to say without seeing your feet and legs which boot will fit you best.

However, I can say I don't believe there is a connection between boot stiffness and comfort.  Stiffness and hassle in and out yes, but comfort for skiing, no.  Also I haven't owned a Strolz in years but I've had my feet in the shells and they weren't particularly low volume.  So you may be able to duplicate with a factory fit in a low volume shell what you had in the Strolz with foam liners.
