Free Video Editing Software for beginners

Hi everyone,

My aunty wants to edit a movie to help teach a class...

Here is what she wants to do:

"I want to pull in a movie from the bible lets say the book of Acts movie for an example.

I then want to *because of copyright* issues..... I want to change the faces of the people on the video. Now here is the tricky part. Most software will allow you to change the face, but that is it you have this face from a photo that is still standing no lips moving nothing... that does not help

I need this software to detect all faces throughout all the frames in the movie and replace the photo face keeping all facial expressions.

so lets say Jesus is smiling, the software must match the photo and smile, if you get what I am saying.

90% of software allows you to change the background

90% of software allows me to add new videos on the background."

Is anyone perhaps able to suggest any software for this task?

Many thanks,

Carne

Carne,

IMO - That kind of feature won't be available in free software any time soon.

Thank you very much for your reply. Do you perhaps know of a `paid software` which will achieve the desired results?

I know folks that use Final Cut.

I edit my sports videos using imovie which is free if you have a mac. Super easy to use for simple editing imo.

Super! Thank you very much.

Do you perhaps know if Final Cut can do the following:

"I want to pull in a movie from the bible lets say the book of Acts movie for an example.

I then want to *because of copyright* issues..... I want to change the faces of the people on the video. Now here is the tricky part. Most software will allow you to change the face, but that is it you have this face from a photo that is still standing no lips moving nothing... that does not help

I will check if my Aunt has access to a Mac. She might as she works in IT. Do you know if imovie achieve the above?

I'm not sure what the capabilities of Final Cut are but these folks do a lot with it including one who is a teacher.

If you have a mac you can sign up for in-person tutorials on the various features and software. I paid $99 for unlimited sessions for 1 year when I got mine.

Maybe a forum devoted to photography or video might be a better place to ask than a ski forum. We can go on about the benefits of ski waxes, instruction techniques, etc., but you're getting into the minutiae of issues that don't normally come up while skiing or recording skiing for posterity.

What you're looking for is not possible. Frame by frame animation of facial expressions would take top notch graphic artists months. No software will do this for you automatically.

I used Final Cut Pro for a free trial a while back and really liked it.  I haven't bought it yet, but I think its on my list of top contenders.

Not necessarily months. You do beginning and end then send it to Korea and they have artists to fill in the steps. But that's old school. Used on Beavis and Butthead.

I worked in stop motion for awhile. We had one woman who mad mouths all day out of clay from drawings. But that's physical objects, not computer.A lot of work goes into simple things.

Heck we hand out medical advise and opinions on here so video editing advice should be a snap! wink.gif

If a show like the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon can only do "lip synch" where only the lips are cut and pasted from one live shot into another, then you should get an idea of what is high budget versus low budget. Something like that capability could give you a low budget approximation of what you are seeking. You'd have to get live actors to provide the facial expressions you are replacing. A teacher should have a ready supply of live actors!
