OK, there's snow on the ground, the resorts are getting photos and column inches into the newspapers, and I'm about to drag out and prep some skis. It must be time to fire up the "downunder" season thread once again.
This was Thredbo early this week.
Perisher fired up the snow making guns in response to the good weather window, and saw some 'encouraging' images flashed across the nightly news.
Right now this is how things look at the top of the Kosi lift ... I'd ski that.
It's warming up this weekend, and the above snow will melt away, but it's a good start.
The Bureau of Meteorology has just called the beginning of a 'significant' El Nino event. Surface temps in the Indian Ocean are still pretty warm. We'll have to wait and see what this season brings.
