At Stevens Pass there is an off piste bowl called "Big Chief Bowl" that is a bit tricky to access but often has great powder shots. In order to access it from the top the main way in is over a lip that is scoured by the wind which leaves low snow pack, which means that if you get several people skiing to the entrance they begin to scrape all of the snow off of the lip and rocks appear. Lots of them.
A couple of years ago the ski area management changed and the new folks decided to go after racers in a much bigger way than they had before. They created a race course that started part way up Big Chief Bowl and went all the way to the base area. In order to make the starting gate they dug a road right across the bottom of the bowl (a huge hazard for people not ready for a road where no road had ever been) and then dug out a flat area, exposing dirt (not a normal thing for a ski area with a 100+" base) for the starting area. The road was to make it so that racers could access the top of the course without going through the process of entering the top of the bowl over the rocks. Well, none of the racers wanted to walk, so they ALL started using the entrance described above. After the race was over the entrance was unusable for weeks, the ski area didn't fill in the cat track nor the starting area, and it ruined Big Chief Bowl for most of the rest of the season. I know at least two Bears who no longer have passes at Stevens because of this kind of stuff. Talk about disgusting!
