Called USSA phone number from Nastar site.
I pointed out the following, then had the questions below:
The ranking system is not functioning; my daughter is not listed when I pull up Utah participants (so the data base/query is f'd up); there are only a few days to qualify for nationals (deadline Feb 15); Nationals is an expensive trip, its hard to justify making the trip when nothing on the local level has operated all year....
Q. Is Nastar going to cancel the National Championships?
A: No, we recognize the data base etc problems and are working on a patch for a ranking system and fixes for the other problems.
Q With only 6-7 Nastar resorts reporting how are you going to draw enough "qualifying" participants to hold a "National" championship, particularly with no ranking system operating?
A: We're working on that, we will look at qualifiers from last year, and people running Race The Gates, and other things, we don't want anyone that wants to go to be left out. We should announce something within a week or so.
It would appear to Hail Mary their Steamboat commitment and try to salvage the Finals event, If you have a heartbeat and skis -- YES YOU QUALIFY !!!
In a follow-up call I stated "We attend for the kids. It makes them feel ~r e a l l y~ special. Something they will never forget. They got kewl swag last year (very nice Nastar National championship backpack, mug, a case of Nature Valley bars and other goodies). For the kids, it really was exciting and a great way to end the season. -- what are you planning in this respect"
A: "The gifting and medals and other things -- the bones of the program will be the same -- we will be doing all that. Its just the timing and software that's a hiccup currently"
So how will USSA do in this respect? I guess the Nastar Eastern Championship event this weekend will be telling...
