Family resort with smaller crowds during Christmas/ New Year in Europe

Started early planning for Christmas/New Year ski vacation. It might seem early but in reality it could be a bit late to secure "frequent flier" seats to Europe.

Mostly interested in Italy, maybe Austria. France is "out" this time.

What would be a good ski resort for a family of 4 to ski and have fun for 12 days? Good ski school for kids, "mellow" terrain, evening walks, cute town (we want that Christmas "bling").

Small(er) crowds are desirable. Snow - either man or God made is also desirable.

Initial thoughts are leading me to Civetta/Alto Zoldo, Ortisei (might be crowded in town but ski area is large), Obergurgl, La Thuile, Monterosa, Nassfeld ... Andorra?

Any suggestions and/or previous experiences with similar trip are welcome.

Obergurgl could be good. It's listed as a good early-season resort because of the altitude, and it's not as famous as the other resorts in the area, so it might not be too crowded. The Ski Club of GB site has it listed as good for families and no queues (relatively speaking).

NOT ANDORRA!

I love the Dolomites and would say Selva [1500m] might be best choice but you are at the mercy of the snow gods. They do have a shed load of snow making and manage the snow very well but it has to be cold enough.

Cervinia is higher [2000m] and more snow sure. Might be busier though. You will get your Xmas bling there.

Thank you for your input. I am famlliar with Selva and agree with TQA that it is one of the spectacular ski resorts of this world. However, it being the largest resort on Sella Ronda it attracts huge crowds, therefore my thinking maybe to go with some of the "smaller" Dolomiti areas. I have no idea how crowded those places can get during the Christmas holidays. My Euro ski trips are mostly during the "shoulder" season when crowds and prices are low.
Obergurgl and nearby Solden are on my short list, but could it be too much hustle to visit with 2 small children? It seems that their suitable accomodation is all a bus ride away.
Cervinia sounds tempting, maybe towns lower in the valley?
And lastly, why so addamantly NOT ANDORRA? Place seems to be receiving huge amounts of snow, looks like some decent skiing and entry port town is not too bad to visit (Barcelona). Would like to hear more.
