Here is a link to the Salt Lake City Hostel. Rooms are about $15 – 45 per night; they have two full kitchens, laundry, etc. http://www.hostels.com/slchostel/index.html
They are right in downtown and would be close enough to all ski areas. It is not clear if the Lewis Brothers ski bus will start up again next year, I understand that it was cancelled for 2002 due to the Olympics, but I would guess it has a better than even chance. The Hostel was near a ski bus stop. This would be a great option for the very budget conscious. REMEMBER TO ADD IN COSTS FOR TRANSFERS TO THE RESORT FOR EACH DAY OF SKIING.
Here are the rest of the options:
1.Extended Stay America Inn: http://www.extstay.com/locsearch.html
Prices here are likely to be under $40 per night or $199 per week (note the weekly price brake, which makes it very comparable to the Hostel for two on a weekly basis). There is a possibility of a group discount. Rooms have a small kitchenette and there is laundry, etc. The Inn is much closer to the Cottonwood Canyon resorts than the Hostel. I will check on this but I believe most rooms have only a single bed and can accommodate only two people. We will not be able to reserve rooms here until 6 months before the event. I don’t know anything about the condition of this hotel. REMEMBER TO ADD IN COSTS FOR TRANSFERS TO THE RESORT FOR EACH DAY OF SKIING.
2.La Quinta: http://www.netbooker.com/booker/AppL...h.BasicResults
The have offered group rate of 49.00 per night per room (two beds per room), if we reserve 10 rooms. The rate is good for up to 4 adults or two adults and two children in the room. They do not have kitchenettes but the property looks nice and Altaskier says he know something of this property. It, like the Inn above is fairly close to the Cottonwood canyon ski areas. REMEMBER TO ADD IN COSTS FOR TRANSFERS TO THE RESORT FOR EACH DAY OF SKIING.
Snowbird provided us with the following option, 7 nights lodging, and 5 days tickets (3 days at Snowbird with lift/tram tickets, and 2 days lifts only at Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, or Brighton for $715 or for a condo with 3 other people for $665. The daily cost of the package is $102 /nt. Hotel, or $95 /nt. Condo. The condos have full kitchens but the rooms do not. TRANSFER COSTS ONLY FOR DAYS NOT SKIING AT ALTA OR SNOWBIRD.
Inn= $170.00 per unit per night
Condos= 1 bedroom $250.00 and 2 bedroom $295.00
Lodging Minimum of 15 units booked
Lift tickets=$34.00 per day, if 30 people ski per day.
TRANSFER COSTS ONLY FOR DAYS NOT SKIING AT SOLITUDE OR BRIGHTON.
5.Southwest Airlines Vacations: http://www.swavacations.com/
Reasonably price packages. They will not take reservations or price flights or accommodations for February until August or September.
I will put together another poll both to help nail down the clinic and finalize the lodging plans. Since the Extended Stay America Inn and Southwest Airlines Vacations do not take reservations until 6 months before the desired booking date, I suggest that we wait to book our group lodging until then. There will still be plenty of in town lodging at that time and we may be able to find an even better package deal for those flying in on Southwest Airlines. But I have no real preference other than if some or many will be staying in Salt Lake City, I would like something with a kitchen of some sort. I like to cook/hate to eat out all the time.
