Looks like a toy compared to a snowboard.

Last month, I saw a guy on what looked like it had been a snowboard cut in half crosswise.  Essentially, he had two very small snowboards on his feet, mounted sideways like on a snowboard. 

 

It looked terrifying.  He could "skate" on the flats, but going downhill, he had edges maybe 16" long and without any support.  He'd toe and heel side it, but since there was not length, no structural support, the edges kept losing grip.  
 

He looked like he might have been a fairly capable snowboarder, but he barely made it down a modest blue without falling.  

Independent one-off or manufactured?

google dual snowboard and i think thata what you saw. I think it will be as popular as snowblades. increased low speed capability but giving up higher speed stability.

It wasn't a split board? Used for touring uphill?
