Just read this:

Steamboat Ski Patroller, Michael Fosdick, who sustained serious injuries in a ski accident last week, died Tuesday afternoon at Denver Health Medical Center.

Fosdick, 63, had been a member of the Steamboat Ski Patrol since 2007. He worked as a courtesy patrollers, a patroller who  help with on-mountain safety but do not provide medical care.

The accident occurred on the upper Rainbow trail last Thursday, April 9th. Fosdick was found unresponsive and was flown to Denver health. There were no witnesses to the accident and it is unclear what caused the accident.

According to Fosdick’s family, he suffered complicated fractures to his C1 and C2 cervical vertebrae.

Fosdick died surrounded by loved ones including his wife, Martha, his son Tyler, and Tyler’s wife, Bailey, his daughter Amanda and her husband, Kelly, and their son Emmett.

“We lost one of our finest patrollers today who gave up his life to serve others,” Ski Patrol Director John Kohnke wrote on the CaringBridge website.

Very sad to hear about someone who spent so much time helping others. A couple guys from Steamboat Patrol helped my wife with a mild ankle sprain when we were there in February.  Really top notch people there.

Condolences to his family, and respect to all you patrollers out there!

Yeah, this is just sad.  Condolences to the family and all the folks on the mountain.

His injury occurred on the same run as where Chris Arnis had an accident last month.
