Wife and I spent 2 weeks staying at 1650 Courchevel and it was superb. Walk across street to gondola which puts you near top of the resort. Val Thorens about 20 minutes of skiing and chair time. Overall the skiing was GREAT Food very very good, nightlife good to OMG with here comes the ambulance. (Magician putting needles through guys neck. 4th or 5th one caused a bit of blood at far side and guy dropped to floor.) We had been told 'warned' about cost of the area but did not find it that bad. Only drawback was how long it took to drive from Brussels using no speed limit autobahn and pretending same in Suisse and France. It seemed to price out near mid to high Tahoe and/or Cottonwood Canyons out of Salt Lake CIty, UT. Regardless of where you ski in Europe you will find it enjoyable especially using the local language(s). The alps are gorgeous pretty much from any resort. Have you ever been to or heard of a ski area not having awesome scenery?
Hahah.... I don't know if I can say that Mountain Creek, (in New Jersey,) has "awesome" scenery, but it will always have a warm place in my heart, because that's the first place I ever skied!
