11 year old: how wide to go?

My 11 year old can ski, he's in a mixed offpiste/race group through his ski club and is just racking up his first 50-day season. I want to get him something fattish for his birthday for next season, how fat to go? I can get a pretty good deal on a 149cm/100mm K2 here, not sure if a 12 year old skiing on our snow pack should be on a ski that wide. Views?

What does he weigh? How tall is he?

He's about 140-145 cm, 30 kg.

Hi some thought about my boys skis that you might (or not) find helpful. We ski ~20d/y in often soft conditions but never really deep.

Older 11yrs 145cm 35kg.
K2 Bad Seed 139cm (88mm waist). He likes these skis but finds them a little bit heavy. I think he means swing weight. I don't know if the new K2 Shreditior is the same skis as the previous Bad Seed/Bad Apple. But I would consider if the weight is an issue.

For no good reason other than that I found them at a good price I spoiled him with a pair of Sir Francis Bacon shorty 14?cm (108mm waist). He uses these for soft or when trying to impress girls. Otherwise he uses his K2. They feel a little too wide in some situations but he floats on top on anything and the rocker feels better then the K2. Definitively not a one quiver ski for him.

Conclusion. For the older I should have waited to next year and bought something in the 100mm range such as the Shiro JR for more smerable ski in the trees.

Younger 9yrs 140cm 32kg
Völkl Gotama JR 138cm (87mm waist). He got them last year and they have been perfect for his progress. The 11yr find then to unsubstantial but easy to ski. The younger loves the low full rocker and now prefer soft/crud/bumps/trees  over groomer. He does not understand why some think it is difficult.

I would be be more concerned with something he can bend, Some of these little skis are so disproportionately stiff it is not funny. The Head Ethan Too is a nice little ski that actually bends, so is the Blizzard Cochise Jr (Nordica Jr El Capo) and the little Kastle. All of these skis are abbot 90mm underfoot, all someone this size will need.

Thanks guys. I can get the Bad Seed (85) or Shreditor (85 or 100) in a 149 cm. Ideally I'd be thinking something in between those widths, but haven't found anything around here yet.

Those two of the skis I am referring to that are way too stiff.

Cool, I'll work on scoring a pair of the Nordicas or Blizzards then.

Now when thinking on it ,what I interpreded as heavy is probably how my older tried to explain stiff. I will myself keep the  Blizzard Cochise Jr , Nordica Jr El Capo and Kastle in mind when the younger needs to update.
