I'm sitting in the hotel after day 1 of the PSIA-E Dev Team Tryout at Killington.
They stole from the Tech Team Tryout format and are doing tow days of just skiing tasks. Just like with Tech Team, each task is followed by discussion of the task which will filter into a technical knowledge score (or something like that). It could be just discussion, or it could be more like "oh yeah, show us that". Plenty of pointed questioning.
29 people trying out, 8 Selectors.
My squad started the day w Sue Kramer and Jeb Boyd. Snow was frozen groomed crud and visibility was not good. It softened big time and was ankle deep slush well before lunch.
We did only two tasks, GS Turns and Open Parallel. There was much discussion and drilling away at these. We worked on them from 9ish until almost 12. We were late for lunch and only had 8 minutes to refuel before returning to the snow.
Part 2 was with TBar and Mermer. We did Leapers, Open Parallel and Wedge Christie. It's mind-blowing that some people at this level cannot do a wedge christie (not throwing stones, mine felt good, but who knows I may have been a flop here too). Also, it turns out that Demo Team types really can do a nice freaking wedge christie. Yup, that's how you do it....
At 2:30 there was a mass throwdown on Superstar. Freerun on the top half, and Bumps on the bottom half. Took more than an hour, but it was pretty fun and the sun finally came out.
Not sure what tomorrow holds, but I think it is more pretty simple stuff, if there was something insane, I'm sure I'd have heard people moaning about it, so not expecting and switch sequential leaping White Pass turns. I do know that the other selectors are Doug Daniels, Lani Tapley, Dave Wenn, and I think Kathy Brennan too.
