CARB and the Epa take NOx seriously. CO2 can be absorbed by trees. The admissions by VW came in a Carb meeting. They're not just over by a bit or even double. It's massive.
Fixing it will cause something else to go - mileage and or power. Maybe not, too much we'll see. The less effect likely the more costly solution. I doubt that just a remap will satisfy owners in performance. If it was that easy they would have done it and not committed fraud.
Well more companies will be scrutinized now. They may discover more violaters. Don't forget it was a small independent co that discovered this. Maybe the epa will get a budget for more testing?
Winterkorn is scheduled for contract talks this week!
He's gone. This is too huge and a big blow for VW and German manufacturing pride. (We couldn't solve the problem so we cheated?) Their only hope is that this is revealed to be common in the auto industry.
Just when small diesels were getting some real momentum in the US due to them. Really too bad.
