Ski the east- Last resort standing - Page 4

Didn't see any construction, but I didn't think to look.

Here's a grass skier starting his run. Pretty good form.

And a few cautious mud skiers.

Some people were blasting through that stretch at high speed. It made a sort of "babbling brook" sound, interspersed with the clicking of rocks.

Geez if the bare spot is that big what's it going to be in two weeks?
June is "only" one week away.

Ah, so they are opened this weekend?
Well, seeing as it never seems to rain up there anymore they may make it.

No, Monday only.

From the Killington website:

"7:57 am 05/26/15--We'll be closed Tuesday through Thursday and possibly through next weekend as well. The coverage is thin and will most likely not allow us to reopen for skiing and riding next weekend. We do plan to run the lift on Monday, June 1 with complimentary lift tickets for all. Walking will be required, probably in several spots, and open terrain will be for advanced skiers and riders only. But if skiing in June is on your bucket list, this is your chance.

We will assess snow conditions on Thursday and announce a final decision for weekend operations Thursday afternoon right here. Check back then."

@mdf, were those last photos people hiking for turns or was the lift still running?

I miss Killington!

Lift was running. That was about 3pm on Memorial Day.  In fact, I took the photos from the lift.

Someone posted a picture on another site of a section of rail for the mountain coaster installed right next to the base of Snowshed 1 & 2. So yes construction has begun.

The last resort standing just fell over. From the Killington daily email blast:

"Hello

We're proud to have delivered 192 days of skiing and riding this season, once again offering the longest season in eastern North America, but unfortunately it’s time to call it quits.

Thanks to all who cheered us on in hopes of making it into June, but alas we will have to try again next year. With heavy rain and temperatures reaching 80 degrees many times in May, Superstar could not hold on for the final curtain call on June 1; until next season"

Well their late season was pretty good. Best I've ever skied in the East when the Canyons lift was open.
Vermont needs the rain so the place doesn't burn.

That's true. It was a good run.
And I don't remember New England ever being this dry this early. Usually Spring is soggy weather.

Rain just moved in. I hope you're happy now.

It's time for me to transition seasons. Next weekend will be time for spring cleaning at the ski club. The following two weekends I'll be on the Cape. That will just about bring me to July which is peak season for drinking and floating down the river.

Not resort but people were skiing on Mt. Washington today.

With this weather moving in it should be interesting to see if June turns happen.
