Looking for recommendations for upcoming trip [April 5-8, thinking about Copper]

Hi! I'm new to this forum.

My mom is moving from CA to Cleveland, and I'm flying out to southern CA to drive her car to her new home.  I'm bringing my skis.  I was planning to stop in CO for three or four days of skiing.  Based on recommendations from a woman at work, I'm planning to stay in Frisco and ski Copper Mountain during the period of 4/5 through 4/8.  Considering current snow conditions and expected weather, is this a good plan?  I'm an upper intermediate/advanced skier, but I steer clear of the bumps.  Since I'll be driving, I'm pretty much free to go anywhere that doesn't deviate extremely from the SoCal to Cleveland route.  However, the money have to spend on lodging and lift tickets isn't unlimited.  Thanks for any suggestions!

Welcome to EpicSki!  From Frisco, you have several choices.  A-Basin is well worth checking out because it's higher and holds snow better as a result.  Also small enough that it's relatively easy to figure out where to go.  Look on Liftopia for a lift ticket.

Have you found the regional weather thread for Colorado?

I agree - I'd recommend Breck, but the walk-up lift ticket price is ridiculous.

Be prepared for extremely springy conditions - unless we get a surprise storm, the mornings will be extremely firm (read: frozen), transitioning to soup by the end of the day. The magic is in finding the middle ground of soft groomers and corn before it turns into a sticky mess. A Basin is also known for its bacon bloody marys - just sayin'.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The forecast is calling for some snow this week, so I'm hoping for good conditions!

It'll be spring skiing, but that's fun too.

Copper will start closing terrain after this weekend. It may not matter to you, but keep an eye on their website to see if it does matter to you. Frisco gives you a lot of choices. I think you can't do better than Summit County now, and given the death of folk at Breck today, you ought to find some deals on lodging.
