The Lex Kunau letters

Thread Starter

Lex Kunau, a part time ski instructor at Pomerelle Ski Resort in Idaho, at one time collected letters from ski instructors and circulated them to others.

The dates may have been from 1988 (?) into the early 2000s.  I can find a small bit of info about him here an there, but he's not listed in Wikipedia

and I can't find a quotable article anywhere.

Anybody have any stories or memories of these letters or of Lex Kunau himself?

I was a contributor to the Lex Letters  for 2-3 years.  It was a forum of sorts where contributors wrote letters on things ski related and sent them to Lex and he reproduced the letters and redistributed them to members of the forum.  My years on contributions was most likely the early 90's.  That's about all I can recall.  YM

Lex is/was much more than a part time instructor at Pomerelle (though there's nothing wrong with that).  His letters were really interesting and most of the contributors knew a thing or two about skiing, ski history, instruction, etc..  He would read regional PSIA news letters and invite those who wrote in them, even those who just wrote comments to the editors, to contribute to the Lex Letters.  I really looked forward to receiving the monthly mail outs he compiled with the help of a copy machine.  Towards the end of my involvement (minor) some suggested he go "on line" with the letters, I don't know if that ever happened.  I may have some years of the letters back in Washington State.  I'll take a look when I get back there.

Many of the contributors were leading members of the ski industry and PSIA.  Many of them had been long in the field and may not be active in the business anymore.  I felt lucky to be invited into the group as I wasn't anywhere near the level of the people who wrote most of the letters.
