I wanted to hear everyone's favourite skiers. Let's see video and your explanation of why they're your favourites. Here are mine:
Why: JF's skiing is powerful, his legs are in constant movement (like pistons constantly flexing and extending) and there's no visible start or end to most of his turns. He spreads his pressure across the whole turn with no jarring moments. Notice there's no "up" movement in his turns. His core's really engaged. Nothing in his turns is forced - he uses turn shape to create natural balance rather than contorting his body into angulated positions.
On a teaching level, I love JF's approach to figuring out blockages, or the movements that lock up skiers, and removing them. And on a personal level, JF is probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He's genuinely a great person. And whoever does his videos has great musical taste!
When I need some visuals of good skiing, I just pull out a JF video.
Why: Another skier who skis in constant motion. I love Paul's flow from arc to arc. He's great at loading and deflecting from one turn into the next without rocketing like a bat out of hell. I also like Paul's tactical choices in bumps. He demonstrates multiple bump lines and stays in control on all of them.
Why: Just found videos of Reilly recently. He demonstrates the same constant motion as JF and Paul. Tactically he makes great choices in bumps. Great strength and flow, and he's not forcing any angles. Here are a couple of his videos since he may be newer to the slashdot crowd and I haven't yet seen a long "demo video" yet from him:
"What about the racers?" I'll leave them to other people :)
