Atomic Automatic 102

Hi,

I'm looking for a decent All-Mountain ski.

I ski 50% of the time off piste and trees, but like to have a ski, that performs decent on piste too.

Is the Atomic Automatic 102 a decent ski on the piste? Are its capabilities on piste comparable to the Atomic Nomad Savage (which is a bit heavier, stiffer, I guess)?

I had the opportunity to ski on the Savage 177cm and liked it very much for its performance on piste.

It went 90km/h without the tip flapping :-)

I'm 70kg and 180cm tall, intermediate to advanced skier.

Cheers

Thomas

I haven't skied either (although i have skied the Automatic 109)--but they look like very different shape and construction. No reason to expect the on piste of the Automatic to be as good. (BTW, If you don't look at your tips you won't know if they're flapping)

I like the advise with the tips ;-)

Have not skied the Automatic, but my sense is that it's more of a soft snow ski with some carbon thrown in to make it doable on piste. If that's your priority, might work well. You could also look at the Soul Rider, soon to be history Kastle BMX98, and the Armada TST.

But IMO a 50/50 ski is seldom used 50/50. We remember those great tree runs, or the soft chop we slayed at 10 am, and we forget that 2/3 to 3/4 of the time we were actually skiing on groomers. So if that's more a realistic description of your allotment, than something like the Kabookie, Supernatural 92/100, or Fischer Ranger 90-whatever might be worth trying.

I found the 102 significantly less stable than the 109 in chop. But tthe ones I demoed were different lengths too, so the conclusion is uncertain.
