My wife and I are coming to Vail from the Midwest for closing weekend. We will be skiing on April 16,17 and 18. We have never been to Vail before, but I've been looking over the trail map at home. We've skied Breck, Steamboat, and Canadian BC resorts. Our skiing ability/preferences are: couple of greens to warm up, then good on any blues without moguls (read prefer to avoid moguls), I like to "push" myself with a black or two, but don't want too steep or again - moguls. Would love to be able to ski some of Blue Sky Basin and the Back Bowls, but I don't know if there are any trails that would fit us there.
With a brief understanding of our skiing style, can anyone who knows the mountain and how the sun moves across and affects the mountain in mid-April give us their opinion as to the best place/runs to get started on and then work our way around the mountain following the sun? Once we have an idea of how the sun affects this particular mountain, and the time of day that is best for different areas, we can plan our attack.
Planning the ski trip and getting excited about our limited time is 1/2 the fun for us.
