Wow, this is tempting. On paper, seems to be pretty perfect for what I'm looking for. For the most part, I can't get off my 187 bonafides for the life of me, and believe me I've tried over the last 3 years, but still my go-to. Huge blizzard fan, I've skied most in the blizzard freeride lineup (brahma, bonafide, cochise, bodacious) and the bonafide is easily my favorite and still the benchmark for 98mm class for the way I ski.
I get in around 50 days/year (30-40 in VT and 15-20 in SLC/CO), 6'2 185lbs. The 187 Bones are the narrowest ski in my quiver at the moment. Looking for something a little shorter and narrower for predominantly tight VT terrain (trees/bumps, think MRG type stuff, and of course groomers). Tried the 187 Brahma a bunch, liked it, but not worth getting at that length with the 187 bones going no where.
I've been debating the the 180 Brahma but that's shorter than I wanted to go, not ruling it out since it's stiff, but a 184 is ideal. Then I saw this thread. At this price point and with the 184 length gone next year with the 181 fx85 incoming, is it the right time to get deeper in debt? Ironically, I'm hoping so.
Oh yeah, I've owned the 188 mx88 for a few years, loved it, kind of regret selling it (to someone on here actually), but not the ski I'm looking for. Just an fyi as I have some experience with Kastles. How's the flex of of the fx84 vs mx88? I was sort of surprised that the brahma was more stout than my pair of mx88, which was a perfect flex for me (even liked it in bumps aside from a tad long) if they came in a 184 and I could afford it, I probably wouldn't be having this debate. I'm aware that the mx83 should be in the mix, but more than I want to spend and looking for more bump/tree-centric ski.
