Help for son's gear for next season . . . all mtn twin tips

Thread Starter

Hi, we just wrapped up this season, so as a father of two skiers, one of whom will need new daily skis, race skis, boots and bindings, I'm already starting to look for his gear for next year to try and get something good at a reasonable cost.  I found a few sales on things, including the Atomic Theory and the Volkl Wall, but wanted to get your input as to whether something like the Wall might be too much ski for him.  Here are his stats and wants:

Male, Age 12

Current height 5'4"

Weight range 115lbs-120lbs

Usage: 50% park, 30% groomers, 20% off-piste

Geography: 90% midwest, 10% west

Level: Advanced for his age, does CO blacks and double blacks, but primarily skis midwestern blacks and midwestern off piste.

Tough on gear (goes without saying), wants twin tips for the park.

I'm anticipating (and I know this is tough) that he'll be 5'5" or 5'6" in December of 2015, and I'd like to get 2 years out of these but it isn't a must.  He just finished two years on 141's (Salomon Threats) which are clearly too short now (about 10cm or more under his nose).

Thanks.

You might find a good deal on K2 Sights, and a 159cm would be a good length.

My son went from 140 cm Rocker2 jr's to the Sights in 159cm this season and has really liked them. He's more 50% off piste, 30% groomers, 20% natural features with a little park mixed in.

Newschoolers will probably have better inputs. 50% park brings into question how much bias to pure park is appropriate...
