Rossignol Savory 7 - Length?

Hi there,

We finally had a great powder day at Squaw Valley a couple of weeks ago... and, my wife then concluded that she needs powder skis (which she does!) To be realistic, these are skis that will be used 100% in the resort and most likely at Squaw. She's 5'8" and 150 lbs. She loves her Blizzard Black Pearls at 166 for groomers and spring-like off piste conditions. But, they were nowhere near wide enough for her in a couple of feet of powder. After combing the interwebs, it looks like the Savory 7 is probably a damn fine powder ski for her. My question now is what length? For a ski that's really only for soft days, 170 seems too short. 178 might be okay with enough rocker, but that also seems like a big step up from 166. What do you think? Thanks!

The 178 of that ski skis very short. It would be the 'correct' compliment to a 166cm BP.

Black Pearls are the skis I bring on trips out west.  I'm petite, 5',0", 120 pounds, advanced.  My BPs are 159cm.  When there is more than 4 inches of fresh powder, I rent demo skis.  Have skied rockered mid-fat skis up to 168cm without a problem in deeper soft snow.  Since I'm relatively small, I don't need to go wider than 100 underfoot to have plenty of float.

Just what I needed to know - not surprising with the rocker!

But still, you're looking at about 10 cm extra for powder skis which is another vote for 178. Thanks! This was my natural inclination ;-)

Sorry... didn't copy the quotes above correctly... you get the picture - the 178 looks like a great ski for my wife. Thanks, everyone!
