How do you guys hold your poles? On my last fall--got hit from behind again--my right thumb got sprained by the pole. After that, I started holding poles without clipping them on so that they can go free when I fall.
I'm wondering if it's better to hold poles for free release or the opposite. On one hand, poles strapped to the hand could cause hand injury. On the other hand, free moving poles can stab people in wrong places.
I have LEKI Trigger poles without loop straps. They clip onto a small loop inbetween the thumb/index fingers. Which brings up another question...is the traditional loop strap pole design superior to the clip-ons?
Any thoughts or experience in this regard?
