Mountain Collective 2015/16 [11 destinations, including Aspen, Stowe, Taos, Sun Valley, . . .] - Page 4

For those considering going to Aspen during the EpicSki Gathering, or for a ski vacation week at some other time, here's a calculation based on 2014-15 high season rates.  Assumes $389 price and 3rd bonus day at Aspen/Snowmass, which is still possible as of today but won't be for long.

Looks like the key is reversed on that graph.

Oops.

Here's the correct one:

I tend to be brief.  Hope I did not come off as an a$$, just wanted to point it out.

Just signed up for this pass. So, that's now three season passes we own. Addicted much?

Interesting, Sun Valley just re-opened the Sun Valley Lodge after a major renovation.  That's the original lodge built in 1936.  Mrs. Holding oversaw the renovation.  The last major addition was in 2008.  This time added a 20,000 sq ft spa building.  The timing certainly seems connected to the addition of SV to the MCP.

What is the scope of the renovation? [from the FAQ]

This will be one of the most extensive renovations ever done, and will include the following:
• All guest rooms will be upgraded and refurbished, and many combined to create larger rooms (king and double-queen suites).
• All bathrooms will be enlarged & modernized, with plumbing upgraded throughout.
• The public areas (i.e., Lobby, Gretchen's, Duchin) will be refurbished to make them brighter and more welcoming.

You are not alone. I also have three season passes for 15/16 (Mountain Collective, Tahoe Local (Vail Resorts) and a Sierra at Tahoe (Powder Alliance Resorts)) so I only have 41 resorts to choose from.
I had four season passes in 14/15 (Mountain Collective, Epic Local, Sierra at Tahoe and Boreal/Soda Springs), but I only got to 27 of the 49 resorts available.

What are the other two passes you have?

Epic Local (Colorado) and RMSP+ (Copper/WP plus some). I mostly ski Breck and Copper; this season I did a lot of spring skiing at A Basin, too. Getting the MCP probably means I'm not going to Silverton or Big Sky next season. (Like how I put that "probably" in there?)

Gotta get Loveland, too.

If you were thinking about getting the MCP at $389 with the bonus day . . . you waited too long.  As of July 4, sales are closed until the "fall."  Although that doesn't necessarily mean when the leaves start turning color in the mountains.  Has meant some time in late August in previous years.

It sounds like you are pretty well covered.
Would you be able to add the MAX Pass to your RMSP+ to also get Big Sky and 21 other resorts?

In theory, sure, but husband isn't a fan of traveling to ski, and I get tired of it pretty quickly, too. Adding the MCP gives us a *lot* more options. More than we'll use for sure. And if we're both traveling for this, dog kenneling adds up faster than condo fees. I don't feel like we need any more passes.

Did you get an email with the link?  The home page of the MCP doesn't seem to have any mention of this deal that ends Aug. 1.

Stowe and Taos, which is mildly favored by El Nino according to bestsnow.net, are now part of Mountain Collective. Maybe I need to do a long spring road trip and skip the Gathering which is close to another planned long trip.

Nice!

When did that happen?  Stowe is a 3-ish hour drive for me, and I keep wanting to go back to Taos.  I already have an MCP, so additions are gravy.

Got the e-mail this morning (PDT). It said "EXPERIENCE OUR NEWEST ADDITIONS TAOS AND STOWE. BUY YOUR 15-16 PASS TODAY!

Your bucket list just got longer. Experience the best of the East Coast and New Mexico with the addition of Stowe and Taos to the 2015-16 Mountain Collective lineup. Eleven destinations, two days at each, 50% off additional days, no blackout dates. On sale now for $399 while supplies last.

That is fantastic news.  Just saw it in my email.  A couple warm up days at Stowe and Taos is on the map now too.

If we'd had the MCP available when EpicSki Academy was going strong, there wouldn't have been much of a demand for us to get tickets for students.

So does this mean that if I bought my pass before they announced the addition of Stowe and Taos (at a lower price), that I my pass is valid for these new additions? This is the first year that I've bought the pass and I'm not sure exactly what is covered/not covered.

Thanks

That is correct.  When you buy the Mountain Collective, you get all mountains included  as MCP adds those mountains to the pass.  Bonus, eh!

If you did not receive an email on this you might want to check into it.

Complete list of the 11 mountains included in the MCP for 2015-16 as of 8/11/15, 2 days each destination.  Also get days at Valle Nevado in Chile and Hakuba Valley in Japan during summer 2015.  $399 adult, $99 child.  Alta/Snowbird and Squaw/Alpine are single destinations for the MCP.  For instance, get 2 days for the combo Alta/Snowbird pass not 2 days at Alta plus 2 days at Snowbird.

Is Taos noted for spring skiing? When do they normally close?

March is prime time.  They close the first week in April.  Closing day sometimes has the best snowpack of the season.

There is a whole, contentious thread about how early is too early at Taos.

Mid February should be good to very good most years.

Status bar moved into NEARLY SOLD OUT in the last few days.  Price at $399 for adults, $99 for kids 12 and under (with adult purchase).  Last season there were two more stages, with the sales ending for good in mid-January.
