1) Salt Lake for AltaBird you can always find reasonable lodging.

2) Jackson and Banff are primarily summer resorts, so lodging is attractively priced in winter.

3) Whistler and Squaw/Alpine are huge with many lodging options, but will get a lot of weekend traffic from accessible big metro areas.  Reno is a safe bet for cheap lodging to ski Tahoe.

4) Sun Valley as an upscale and remote resort town rates to be the most expensive.  But it will also be the one where you will have zero crowd concerns on a holiday weekend.

How's the drive from Reno to Squaw Valley? Looks like lodging there is very affordable, but it seems to be a bit far.

Here's a thread from a couple years ago about staying in Reno:

If it's snowing, the drive from Reno could be . . . not that easy.  Have you check lodging prices in Truckee?

Reno to squaw valley is fine. Many employees live there. If its snowing so bad the mountain is going to be closed anyway.

If you are deathly afraid of driving you can also book a shuttle and the equipped bus will take you. Or you can also change your plans and drive or shuttle to mt rose.

I ended up booking a room in Tahoe Vista. I don't mind driving in the snow, I do it all the time, but after thinking about it more I'd rather not drive two hours everyday from my hotel to the mountain and back, especially since it will be an 11 hour drive to get there.

Anyways, super excited to ski Squaw. I went there last March, but less than half the mountain was open and temps were very warm. Looking to forward to skiing it with decent snow.

The MCP is back on sale for 2015-16 at $499.  That's a jump of $50 compared to the last price in Dec before the break during the holidays.

Anyone notice when the MCP went away for 2015-16?  I was off skiing the second half of Jan.

Have gotten a couple emails from MCP for "Featured Destination."  First was for Mammoth and today one came for Taos.  Anyone get these for any other destinations?  I have used my MCP at Sun Valley, Alta/Snowbird, and Aspen this season.

yes i just check the website and it went away, it will be back in spring for 16-17 season.  Can't believe winter is almost over!  I used MCP for Whistler/Blackcomb (a productive, confidence "booster" trip), Stowe (was a "meh"), Sunshine/Lake Louise (a great trip).  Will be in Alta April 2 - 9 for my last bash of the year....

I have not rec'd any email from MCP, not sure why?

I am undecided if I will get the MCP next season.  Not that it is not great.  But I may go to Dolomites w/ my nephew next year, probably that will be the big trip for me and will skip the west coast skiing altogether. I will see.

You might add your dates to the Alta/Snowbird meetup thread.  I'll be there the first week of April as well.

I forget exactly, but it was before the gathering. I believe Jan 31st.

Thanks.  That was about what I expected since it ended around Jan. 18 in 2015.  Every year has been a little different in terms of what happens in the final 6-8 weeks.  I was having fun skiing powder at Alta the last weekend of Jan so checking on the MCP wasn't high on the To Do List. :)

I have no doubt sales for 2016-17 will start up in March.  The question is what the starting price will be and how many days will be included for early birds.

This is my third year with the MCP and the first for taking advantage of three areas: JH in Dec, my three days at Mammoth just last weekend, and typing this now from the Phoenix airport on my way to SLC to cash in on Alta/Bird. I love this pass!

Don't rule out Whistler or Banff. Both ski great  mid-March to mid or end of April and with a 70 cent Canadian dollar, Canada is on sale.

+1  And while February has been way down on western snowfall, it has been less down in western Canada than in the western U.S.
