Mid April International trip

I thought I might make an international trip this mid (or later) April (i.e., next month). I know this has not been a great snow year in much of Europe. Places I am considering: Lake Louise/Sunshine/ possible side trips to Revelstoke or Kicking Horse (this is my fall back although I've been there in the past, the snow usually lasts pretty well); Japan (I know NOTHING about spring skiing (or much of any skiing) there); someplace in Europe I haven't been (i.e., not Swiss area (exchange rate is unusually bad), not France, not the Swiss/French border areas of Italy). I'd ideally like someplace that had some cultural  interest (e.g., last trip to Italy, we flew into Milan, spent a few days there then go skiing) and good hotels/dining. I have as much as 2 weeks for the whole excursion.

Fly to Vienna for the culture fix then drive to where ever the snow is best.

Accommodation will not be a problem.

Arraba/Marmolada in the Dolomites can ski well late season

A safe bet would be to head for a glacier ski area. Austria (Tyrol) has some with guaranteed snow well into summer.

Hintertux, Stubai, Pitztal or Rettenbach. Closest major int'l airport: Munich.

I'm told the dollar and Euro may reach parity soon!

That factored into the plans. And thanks for the information about Austria.

FYI, if you fly to Vienna, you can take the train to Salzburg, Innsbruck, etc., for your ski base, and then continue on the train to Zurich for your flight home. That would give you a chance to do some sight seeing in another city rather than going back to Vienna. Or, you can go the opposite direction, flying in to Zurich, taking the train east to the skiing, and finishing up in Vienna.

Depends on your idea of culture, but IMO Vienna is pretty far from the skiing and train rides in Austria, even with euro parity, are not cheap. The cheapest airport to fly into that's close to skiing is almost always Munich, which happens to be not that far from ski areas in Austria (and Germany) where you'd be likely to find OK spring skiing. You'd pass through Salzburg and Innsbruck on your way there and back.

If flying in from the USA Vienna is a possible destination.

Maybe return from Zurich.

Arabba The Milky Way Cervinia Zermatt are all skiing well at the moment.
