narrow ankle.. wide foot.. small calves.. where to start?

I need to get some new boots, the ones I have are too large and I want to get something that's "right".

I'm looking for some recommendations on where to start with boots.  Unfortunately there isn't a lot of boot fitters around and I'm not sure the recommendations i'm getting are the best.

I picked up a pair of Lange XC100 based on a recommendation at the shop I went to and they seemed ok at the shop for the 15 minutes I had them on.. . .but after wearing them for 30 minutes at home, the little toe and the top of my foot started to ache, on both feet.  Is this something that heat molding will fix or should I be looking at another boot?

Undoing the buckles on top the foot had little impact on the pain.  Definitely not something i'd want to ski on.

The heel fit well.. which isn't something I've really had the pleasure of before.. unfortunately the rest of the foot doesn't fit so well.

Is there another boot i should be looking at?  There is a 7 day return policy so i'll be going back on the weekend to try and find better boots but I want to be a bit more informed as to which ones might fit better than the rest.  I know there is no magic bullet when it comes to this stuff, but any recommendations are appreciated.

I also tried on atomic hawk 110 and some nordica but the heel wasn't tight enough.  If it makes a difference my feet are 26.5.

thanks,

Sounds as if you are working with a shop that sells boots rather than fits them.  Might be time to start over elsewhere.

Unfortunately the closest decent place is an hour away.. which is where I got my current boots and I don't know of any shops in southern ontario that actually "fit" boots.

I'm open to suggestions for shops between london and toronto ontario that will actually "fit" boots.

So I just got back from the place I got my boots from, and this time worked with a highly experienced fitter.  Thanks the people who sent PM's and who have had previous experiences with shops in southern ontario.

Anyway.. they agreed the boots I had were wrong for my foot and we started from scratch.  I'm now the proud owner of some Technica boots.  I believe the model was Cochise 110..

Apparently my instep is abnormally high..  they had to grind the foot beds a bunch and after heat molding the liner I think they're just about there.. need a few days on the hill to break them in and if they need any more work they guarantee the fit for a year.

Couldn't be happier at the moment.  Now to see how they are after a couple thousand vert ft.
