Lions, tigers and bears Oh My????
No – Park City, The Canyons, Deer Valley and Snowbird bulls eye. Seven days including steeps, glades, corduroy heaven followed by rehydrating with an appropriate hot tub beverage and a vast choice of culinary delights brought lifetime smiles to our group of 38. We had double black diamond 9 and 12 year olds leading the pack followed by those whose cliff jumping antics were confined to heights not exceeding 3”. No matter what the ability all enjoyed a week of sunshine filled western skiing. While the snow was limited by Utah conditions, still there was ample terrain to satisfy all. Many Huggers joined the trip and we had old and soon to be new friends from Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut, South Carolina and an Ohio Epic Bear to add to our mix.
While the chutes at Snowbird off the Little Cloud lift were my favorite others found Deer Valley groomers such as Tycoon and Hidden Treasure where they could put the pedal to the medal or enjoy a lazy day’s drive. Maxine, the manager at Park City Peaks provided an excellent blues tour of Deer Valley. For those who dared, Jupiter Bowl glades at Park City provided some of the softest snow and if you ducked a rope – not a confession – at the Canyons 9990 Express lift soft steep bumps and trees were for the taking!!!! In ALL there was great skiing for ALL.
Only one injury – Dr.Chuck – who wasn’t satisfied with banged up ribs from a tumble at Deer Valley but added a knee ouch the following day. I thank the many both on and off the hill that helped Chuck and kept him smiling despite his injuries. He vows to return next year to get back on the ski horse.
Speaking of next year, Banff in Alberta Canada is my target with skiing at Sunshine, Lake Louise, Norquay and possible a day side trip to Kicking Horse. Stay tuned as I expect it to sell out as did this year’s trip. I leave all with some pics of what those who chose not to come missed.
