Beer League Slalom Ski Question

Hey Guys:

Since you guys were so super helpful with my GS ski question I thought I would ask a SL ski question.  I had a great year in my GS ski beer league moving from 12th place in the first race down to 3rd place in the final race.  Needless to say I am all pumped about ski racing and plan to go into Ontario Masters next year.  I need a SL ski since there 2 GS races and 2 SL races.  I am wondering if ski length makes any difference for SL skiing.  I am 6'4" 200lbs.  What ski size would you recommend for me.  I was thinking about going with a 165cm Atomic SL ski.  Can I go shorter to say 158cm.  There seem to lots of those for sale.  Thoughts?

Going shorter than 165cm at your size -- well, I hope you have superlative balance skills. Slalom skis hook up like nobody's business in the 165 length... Going shorter doesn't leave you any room for error

^^^ Believe it or not, a SL can get you into some serious G's in a hurry, and on a rutty course, at your size, a women's SL would be, ah, challenging. Just get a 165 and enjoy.

I am 6'4" and 245 lbs. I coach ski racing in a youth program. I don't beer league ski, but I would like to. Any way, I own a Rossi Slant Nose SL ski in 175 cm. It was the longest I could find on the market. It feels perfect to me. If I was going to race, I might try a 165 racestock ski, but that would be the shortest I would consider. My advice is no shorter than 165, and that would be the ski length I would recommend to you.

No worries.  I think I got what I wanted.  I now know I need a 165cm SL ski and no shorter.  All is good :)
