Elk Mountain Ski Area, Union Dale PA

Hi, I'm taking my daughter skiing at Elk Mountain in PA tomorrow. We usually go to Camelback and have a tradition of going to Barley Creek for dinner before going home. Is there someplace near Elk you would recommend for dinner dressed is Ski gear? I know she'll miss the stop because we really enjoy talking about the day over dinner and hot chocolate.

Thanks!

There are a few places nearby, but I don't have any personal experience with them.  But, Scranton is on the way home for you and since there is both Elk and Montage ski areas nearby, few people would give you a second glance if you stopped an any restaurant on the way home, especially at the Clarks Summit exit (which is right where you would pick up 476...I am assuming that's the route you would take).

I'm a Waffle House kind of guy myself...  :D

I had planned on taking your advice by stopping in Scranton but it snowed all day and night and the highway was a mess on the way home. It took us 4 hours to get home.. Looks like they have a lot of options. We'll go there next time.

Thanks!

How was the skiing?

There are a also places to eat in Dickson City, just north of Scranton, Exits 191 and 190.  Personally, I like the Six East Diner that's on Bus US6 about a mile from I-81.  I like to stay at the Microtel Inn in Dickson City.  GM and co-owner is a regular at Elk.

It was a lot of fun. Snowing all day, it was beautiful. But we are still learning how to ski and don't have the appreciation for the "fresh powder" that so many skiers love. I hope one day I'll/we'll get it!

Thumbs Up
