Doing a group trip next week, first time visit. What is a best time to be heading up the canyons  to avoid major traffic. would rather arrive early grab some coffee vs fight traffic. New member first post. I tried the search function no hits but if this has been discussed a bunch just post links.

Thanks in advance,

MIke

Hi Mike, welcome to EpicSKi.
It's never really THAT busy, not exactly fighting traffic. Maybe a couple of minutes to get a space in the parking lot if it's an epic powder day, but you won't be queuing all the way up the hill.

Are you asking about Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC), meaning Alta/Snowbird, or the Canyons in Parley's Canyon?

Did you notice the post about how to get a headstart by taking the ski bus to LCC on a powder day?

The EpicSki Search function is . . . not the best.  A directed Google search something like "LCC driving: epicski.com" is more likely to be helpful.  Especially if you restrict the search to the past year.

I went to all four cottonwood canyon (big and little) this past January. We headed up every morning at opening and encountered almost no traffic at alL And two were weekend days. These were days where there was a few inches to no new snow overnight. I gather things can be much different when it dumps there. There are ski bus lots at the entrance to both canyons should you need them. You should hope that you do.

If not a powder day, traffic not much of an issue.
