JH Gathering - Grand Targhee Carpools?

Thread Starter

Hi All,

I am considering spending 2 days at Grand Targhee as there seems to be much more intermediate terrain there than at JHMR. The days I am considering are March 3 & 4.

Is there anyone out there who plans on going these 2 days and who has extra space in their car for me? I will also have skiis and may bring my snowboard too, if there is a sudden powder dump.

I promise to treat my carpool buddy to drinks and snacks at the bar at the end of each day!

Thank you,

Kara

Having used this in the past, the price here is hard to beat.  Not a "shortened" day either.  Can't beat the deal.

kasuncion - fly in Feb.28 - fly out March 5 - intermediate - 1st Gathering and 1st time to JHMR

Several of us are looking to head out to Targhee for a day or two around that timeframe. Plus I think per the "unofficial" official schedule, a Targhee day will happen.

Too early to plan (for me anyway) the exact Targhee days, but I'll be surprised (shocked!) if you cant get a ride to/from Targhee both of the days you want from one of the 70 or so attending this gathering. You may have to wait 1-2 days ahead of time since the Targhee days may be a bit last second, depending upon weather and conditions. And you have Greg's link as a last second backup option.

When you get to the Gathering, look up me (JohnL), Ski3PO, GarySkr, and Living Proof. And ask for Uncle Louie's credit card number. We are staying in the town of Jackson and the town of Wilson. (And if we get Uncle Louie's credit card number, we will be staying cheaper.) Likely to be an open space or two in one of our cars. And I'm sure other Bears will have open spots.

Hmmm, in that case I thought you'd be staying at the Four Seasons.

You haven't seen his available credit limit...

Same deal for us. We will follow the consensus on when to do Targhee, but will have 2 spots available in the car (Subaru Impreza with snow tires and a roof box).

@mdf - Mike, I'd like to claim one of those seats if I can. I'm staying at the 49er Inn, which looks like a short walk over to your hotel.

See you soon,

Kara

Sure. Looks like it's about 200 feet. Do you want a ride to JHMR too? We are going to try to go early enough to be at the 8:45 meet up without rushing. (I'm not a morning person so it's rough. )

Yeah, I'm up for hitching JHMR rides from you as well. The motel I'm staying

at has a free shuttle service i was gong to try out. I'll compare their service to yours.

P.S. I am not a morning person either. But since we're paying a lot of mulla towards these trips, i really try to get up at dawn and be prepared.

I'll definitely be there on time. It's just a question of whether I arrive frantic at the last minute or relaxed with time to spare. Skiing is the only thing I get up early for.

I wonder if my motel has a shuttle. Might be easier than driving if the times work out. There's always Start bus if return time is bad.

Well we will figure it out later.

I looked it up and Elk Country Inn should have a free ski shuttle as well. The one at 49er leaves on the hour at 8, 9, 10 am. Apparently it only takes 20 minutes, so taking the 8am will get us there well before this 8:45am meeting time. That is super super early for me, but I want to make the most of the trip. Another benefit of taking a shuttle would be that the prob drop you off right at the entrance vs. having to walk from a parking lot.

I'll pray for snow.
