Midwest Skiers: What Ski for Mt. Bohemia?

Thread Starter

I am 47 y.o., 6'7", 230 lbs.  Skiing 2 seasons.  Visited Summit Co. in Jan and skied some groomed blacks at Breck and Keystone.  I like fast but like to stay in a reasonable comfort zone (not an x-games candidate). Just starting to ski real bumps.  The instructor at Breck said I should be in a Level 7 class next time.

I am going to Mt. Bohemia (UP in Michigan).  Never been there.  I do almost everything on groomed.  So, I have a set of Elan 88xti's in 188cm.  But they are definitely frontside-leaning skis.  I have watched some vids of bohemia, like this one: https://vimeo.com/90403207

Not really even sure what kind of ski I need to ski there.  I am not going to go crazy in the trees.  But, I am guessing my Elans are too much of a carver for that place?  I am happy to look at a new ski that I can use for there and out West that will open new terrain and opportunities for me.  Especially as I am more eager to go onto the ungroomed stuff out West.  But, I am always figuring I need something lighter and nimble, but as such a big guy I also need a stiffer (and thus heavier) ski, right?

Any help?  Thx.

I wouldn't buy a new ski for Bohemia, they have lots of rentals. They also sell there own ski model.

There is no grooming so a stiff ski might not work well for you, try before you buy & check what others

 are using.

 Just my opinion,  Buzz

you will be absolutely fine on amphbio 88xti. if you get lucky to get anything over 6" - figure it out, but still it should be fine.
and do not ski fast at Bohemia .

A little lake to the game but you should be fine on your skis.  I was there the week this thread started and rented skis.  They were just K2 Apache Recons.  Nothing special.

The Bohemia Edition skis are very cool though
