Another thread got me thinking about this topic which has occasionally come up now and again during my skiing experiences.
I wonder if any of you feel that slope rating should be done as a standardized system where as perhaps some sort of qualified individuals determine a ski slopes difficulty or it must follow strict written guidelines..
One of the problems (as you probably know) with no standard is actually an important one. Not only can it be dangerous but at the very least causes poor scenarios on the slopes. People may ski Blacks or also Blues at one mountain and then venture elsewhere and think they can do the same but only after its too late do they realize this black or this blue run is not at all the same and they are in over their head.
I would like to see a standard. I think its just better for the sport/recreation overall. I would also like to see the greens and blues (like Blacks) have single and double ratings also. I have seen double blue ratings but not often. But again its all only relative to that resorts other runs so none of it really has any standard value anyway except for its own relativity .
Imo an industry standardized system for single and double greens, blues, and blacks would be great for all levels and no one would get caught by surprise wherever they go and it would help a ton to minimize all the potential problems that can arise form it all.
What do you all think.
