Solden, Austria

I just got back from a trip to Solden, Austria.  We had a group of 15.  The skiing was very good on piste.  Some hard pack spots, but generally very good.  Off piste was thin & rocky.  Forget about it.  Great collection of lifts & gondolas across three peaks & two glaciers.  Views to die for.  Free buses.  Good skiing at the neighboring area of Obergurgl.  Prices were reasonable, crowds moderate, good time all around.  Few Russians with the rouble at 75 to the euro.  Lots of Germans.  Some Swiss were there with about a 15% discount after the Swiss Central Bank stopped holding the euro/Swiss franc rate constant.  Not as many Brits as I expected.  They were filming a James Bond movie, but it didn't bother us.  Solden is about as real a town as Whistler...lots of hotels, ski rental shops, night clubs, lifts...that's about it.  The real people live farther down the valley.  Anyway, I'd go back.

That was a succinct but to the point informative TR about an area we don't hear much about. Quite helpful , thanks
