For aches and pains at the end of the day -
I had a pair of smart wool ski socks that didn't fit me well so I filled them with rice and tied a knot in the top. One sock goes in the freezer for a cold pack the other one I use to warm up in the microwave for 2 minutes for a hot pack.
When the rice isn't retaining the moist heat anymore I just unknot the top of the sock, dump the toasted rice out and refill the sock.
The heel pocket in the sock makes for a nice bend to fit over shoulder or around the neck nicely.
