Adjusting rental ski binding for new boots

I may be handing down some old boots to someone who uses Head BYS rental skis, with bindings that say Tyrolia BYS 100. His old boots' sole length is 289mm, and my old/his possible new boots are 295mm. The new boots do fit in the binding, but I assume they should be adjusted to be a little bigger for safety. Is it possible to have this binding adjusted? Is reducing the DIN another option?

Yes they should be adjusted and yes the DIN can be reduced unless you're already at the lowest DIN. The fact that his boots fit doesn't been the length adjustment is correct. Bindings have a spring which pushes the heel piece against the boot with a certain amount of forward pressure which is determined by where the heel piece is positioned.  If the FP is not correct the binding will release too soon or not at all. The heel piece will have some kind of indicator to show when the heel is correct. Demo bindings have a boot sole length scale but the forward pressure may not always be correct at the marked BSL setting--sometimes the heel needs to be moved forward or back a little bit. Your friend needs to take his skis and the boots you are giving him to a shop to have the bindings adjusted and release tested.
