I've always been a nervous skier and have a tendancy to 'freeze' when I'm overwhelmed.  Do you panic on the slopes or experience fear when skiing? Here are my hints and tips for nervous skiers, at all grades... not just beginners.  Hope this helps.

I do not get scared normally, I do not like real high old chair lifts without safety bars.
A few times I have found myself on top of cliffs or someplace real dangerous where I was a bit afraid.
Funny story: I saw some ski tacks and followed them down a real steep slope. I stopped on top of a rock out crop and looked over, there were some small trees I was going to have to clear but if I did there was a nice steep landing so all I needed was to get a good run at it. I worked my way up the 45deg slope above me and made a spot to be able to make a jump turn and point them down and go off the rock wall bellow. Just as I was getting my nerve up, a guy skied down to a rock out crop much lower than the one I was on with no trees to clear and cried "Oh SHT this is bad". He then looked up at me and said “Oh F you are in a bad spot!” It took me a few moments more to get my nerve back. But after landing fine it was not so bad.

Hi NervousSkier.

Are you a blogger, or do you write for other publications?

tip #1 Just keep skiing faster and faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

Hi Trekchick, no I haven't written for any publications or blogs, I'm just a regular skier, albeit nervous at times!  Happy to take any advice you have though...  Just back from a ski holiday last week and have just booked another one for next January so love to ski.  On my return this year I felt I had to share my experiences... I had a bit of a relapse myself and witnessed too many other nervous people across the mountain, especially as it hadn't snowed for a while in my resort so conditions were very compacted and increasingly fast so everyone was on edge.
